Rooney plays LA: Music Box @ Fonda
The buzz in LA is Rooney at the Music Box @ Fonda Theater.
With a foundation in conventional and well-executed rock ballads, it’s easy to see why the local band has developed it’s loyal following. Robert Schwartzman’s lead vocals and contagious personality form the cohesive threads for the solid performances by the band.Robert Schwartzman is the youngest of the interesting and prolific LA Schwartzman clan… including yours truly, The Head. This author is certainly biased as a result.
Rooney’s positioning as a solid, traditional rock band seems to be working. The band’s new release “Calling The World” further cements their commitment to a retro-traditional rock format. “When Did Your Heart Go Missing” is the well-executed single that’s now gaining international interest.
The band seems to have recognized it’s fan base by continuing to maintain a consistency within their genre. It’s evident in their audience which tends to skew towards the market of undergrads and younger. The fans are receptive to the focus of the act, which contrasts sharply with many bands that deliver a wider range of styles.
Robert reminds me of Ryan Adams in many way, and it’s exciting to see his career continue to unfold. His 2001 role in as Michael in “The Princess Diaries” certainly helped exposed him to the same demographic that’s his audience today. At only 24, he still has dozens of opportunities to re-invent himself as creative inspirations drives him.
Rooney puts on a fun show. Go see this band.
