Citybeat’s remake

The Buzz in LA today is about the redesign and relaunch of LA Citybeat.

Five years in, CityBeat plans to relaunch this week with a new design, logo and lineup of columns and features. The most notable addition is that content from Wonkette, the Washington politics website formerly owned by Gawker, will run in print each week. Also, Neal Pollack will write a biweekly column about sports and Steve Lowery, who quit in April as CityBeat editor in chief after a few days, will contribute a weekly news-in-review column.

Also coming:

  • Editor Rebecca Schoenkopf will revive her Commie Girl column from the OC Weekly. They’re billing it as “national stories with a personal and profane touch.”
  • An enviro column under the byline of Coco Tanaka, a shopping column from Kim Lachance, columns on media-TV and the state of the city, state and nation by Jim Washburn, and a club column by new arts editor Ron Garmon. Chris Morris will continue to write his music column Sonic Nation.

New art director Paul Takizawa, formerly of the LA Weekly and Artillery, oversaw the redesign. There will be a re-launch party June 13 at J Restaurant & Lounge on S. Olive Street downtown.
