Get Away from LA in LA

Action Sports in LA, Green in LA, Health & Fitness in LA, Sports in LA by Trisha

If you haven’t been to Will Rogers State Park, go now. It’s a bit low-key for the adventure seekers (unless you go down to the river and follow the river. There’s a vague memory of doing this, with exquisite sights in return, but the road’s a little rough.), but perfect for first-time hikers. To inject a bit of adventure, go up the trail to the Backbone Trail, or the beginning of Topanga State Park. Try the trail on the left for a thigh work-out, and be rewarded with better views than on the easier trail. Follow the trail (it joins up on the spine of the hill) to what looks to be the highest point - it’ll have a iron-barred wood bridge and a treacherous ascent, and you think it’s going to be all worth it, but it’s not.The best views are by the bridge - the top view is so obscured by nearby bush, you can’t see anything anyway. It’s a great hike, and you won’t feel sore later.

The Return of Audi

Entertainment in LA, Sports in LA by AMG

The buzz in LA today is the widely anticipated Audi commercial to debut during next Sunday’s Super Bowl.

Where: Super Bowl XLII (first quarter)
What: Audi R8 ($109,000)

Audi has been absent from the automotive ad opportunity of the Super Bowl for 20 years now, and it is returning hoping to ultimately topple its rivals (BMW & Mercedes) for the crown of luxury auto maker. Now, with its new R8 sports car that has won every award from here to the moon, even Playboy’s Car of the Year, Audi is now hoping to finally leave its competitors in the dust.

With the assistance of  ad firm Venables Bell & Partners (San Francisco), Audi’s 60-second spot will be a parody of its rivals using a well-known scene from The Godfather. Audi itself has admitted to spending up to $1.5 million on the rights to the film from Paramount.

The ad of course takes place at a Beverly Hills home and re-enacts a Godfather scene inside where gasoline is shed in lieu of blood. Before the R8 drives off, the words appear “Old luxury has been put on notice.”

The newest rumor from the auto world is that Audi may actually be unveiling its R8 convertible during the commercial. You can view the countdown at AudiUSA.com.

January - AFC Championship - Guess Who?

Sports in LA by venicesurfergirl

Yes. The Buzz today in L.A. is that the San Diego Chargers are playing the New England Patriots next Sunday in the AFC Championship match.

maroney-236×127.jpg

For those of you following the blog posts here, you will recall that I predicted that the San Diego Chargers were poised to come on strong back in October. Well here we are in January and the Chargers have made it all the way to the Championship match against The Patriots. They defeated the Indianapolis Colts in a very powerful back and forth game with both LT and their QB, Philip Rivers, out with injuries in the 2nd and 3rd quarters respectively. They had their back up QB take them the entire length of the field to score. What a game. This is January. This is the Play Offs. This is the NFL. Nuf said.

The Perfect Team?

Sports in LA by venicesurfergirl

Today the buzz in L.A. is about the ending of the regular NFL season this weekend and the Patriot’s (seemingly) undefeated, record-breaking season.

images.jpeg

Most are now saying that the Pats are the best team ever and that Tom Brady is the Perfect QB. The Pats finish of the regular season tomorrow night against the NY Giants, but the Giants already have a spot in post season playoffs, so they have no reason to play their starters to try to defeat the Pats. So presumably, the Pats will finish their perfect season with a perfect 16 - 0 record. But not so quickly. This is the NFL and those boys are competitive mofos, so don’t expect NY to lay down quietly. Every eye on the game says they should, but I’m not buying it. I bet Eli Manning and Amani Toomer bring their game and upset every anticipated headline already written and ready to go to press. Patriots first team in the history of the NFL to finish the regular season undefeated 16 - 0…or something along those lines. Not so fast. I think this game has an upset in the making. The Perfect Team? Hmmm. We’ll see.

Pats vs. Colts

Sports in LA by venicesurfergirl

Today the buzz in L.A. is this Sunday’s showdown between the no. 1 Pats and the no. 2 Colts, the match of the undefeated.

nfl_g_patscolts_134.jpg

This game has the analysts, pundits, fantasy footballers and every NFL watcher insane with anticipation. If ever there was a dream Superbowl Game (or AFC Championship), this is it. By most opinions, the Pats have the advantage with Tom Brady’s QB statistics bound for a record-breaking year (beating Manning’s 2004 record year). Still, Manning is a formidable competitor, so this will be a battle-of-the-best.

Talking about formidable QBs, how about Bret Favre’s game-winning throw in OT on Monday night against the Broncos? Gotta give it up for the old guy!

LT is Back!

Sports in LA by venicesurfergirl

Today the buzz in L.A. is that after a lackluster start to the 2007 NFL season, MVP LaDainian Tomlinson is back.

28369_274wh.jpg

Within the opening minutes of the game against The Raiders, LT scored his first of what would eventually be four touchdowns of the game. He ran for 198 yards on 24 carries, and yes, he was unstoppable. Many had both LT and The Chargers already written off for the season due to his stagnant start and their three of four losses in the opening games of the season. The Chargers have won both of their last two games, however, and LT is starting to perform like the MVP he truly is. Now at 3 - 3, The Chargers have their game back and are viable contenders for a post-season slot. And since LA doesn’t have a professional football team, nor does it seem we will have one anytime soon, The Chargers are our closest neighbors and certainly a team worth adopting, especially with the likes of LT behind the wheel (sorry, Rivers, but you’re really only as good as your MVP running back).

There is still alot of football to be played, and despite his stupid, dimpled chin, Tom Brady and The Pats look like they’ll go all the way. Check back here in January…
