The buzz in LA today is all about the groundbreaking and metaphysical ceramics style of Kathrerine J. Dube. Her latest show entitled “Symposis” is displayed above. On the left, with Tupolino’s Cups, she combines earthy shell-like elements with basic shapes and gold to create new stunning creatures and on the right, with her Kepler Orbitals, she mixes wheel thrown shapes, large and small, in an unexpected barrier breaking format to create ethereal astral forms. I was lucky enough to meet this brilliant and inventive artist at the June 12th Thursday night downtown Artwalk last week. She comes from a science background which has quite a lot of influence on the structures she builds. She uses a triple firing process and real gold when making these beauties.
